How Hair Style, Texture, Length, and Color Impact Casting

Angela Cohen was in a quandary when told she'd have to cut her hair if she wanted to play a stewardess in the pilot for "Pan Am," a new ABC series that is generating some buzz. Cohen wanted the role, but her wavy, curly hair—extending halfway down her back—was part of her professional and personal identity. For starters, she was afraid she'd end up resembling a poodle. Second, she wasn't sure how a bobbed look would affect her ability to book other roles. And third, a new hairstyle would require new headshots—a time-consuming and expensive prospect. Nevertheless, Cohen complied, losing 15 inches of hair.

"I really didn't like the way I looked," she recalls. "Still, I thought it was worth it. I was told the director liked upgrading actors, and because this was the pilot, there was a good chance we'd be upgraded."

The pilot was shot in March, and Cohen remains hopeful about her future on the show. In the interim, the bob is working for her. She booked a role in a Mohegan Sun commercial and has gotten positive feedback from casting directors, some of whom have said she was brought in to audition because of her hair. "I've been told it looks sassy and that it shows off my features," she says.

2011 at Thundercrack Films

We hope everyone has settled nicely into 2011.  Here at Thundercrack Films we have big plans that we will share as the year rolls on.  One of our priorities is to re-release In the Flesh (Amy Lynn Baxter, Ashlyn Gere) on VOD and get Webcam Exhibitionist into the light of day.  We also have an internet series in pre-production.  As always, feel free to drop us an email if you're interested in working with us or investing in a project. 

A brief look in the rear-view......BAZOOKAS continued to chug along in 2010 and we are still exploring new opportunities for the film (possible announcement soon).  At the turn of the new year BAZOOKAS was still ranked in the top 10 of three comedy categories on Amazon.com's video on demand.  In one of those categories, BAZOOKAS was sandwiched between comedies Trading Places, Animal House, Something about Mary, Blades of Glory, Men in Black, Hot Tub Time Machine and Vegas Vacation -- not bad company to be in.

As 2011 quickly approaches, we are mapping out projects for the new year.  We are currently looking for completed screenplays that are a good fit for next year's slate.  If you would like to run your story by us then please email with your elevator pitch and contact info.  We are especially interested in genre movies and high concept material -- comedy, horror, thrillers, and erotica.

We are also looking for a talented editor or two to work with as well as a DP who owns their camera equipment.  Email us with a link to your reel if your interested in joining the team.

Stare at boobs for longer life: Study

Frankfurt, Germany, December 6 -- A rather bizarre study carried out by German researchers suggests that staring at women's breasts is good for men's health and increases their life expectancy.  According to Dr. Karen Weatherby, a gerontologist and author of the study, gawking at women’s breasts is a healthy practice, almost at par with an intense exercise regime, that prolongs the lifespan of a man by five years.  She added, "Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female, is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out."

A five-year research on 500 men
Researchers at three hospitals in Frankfurt, Germany did an in-depth analysis of 200 healthy males over a period of five years. Half the volunteers were instructed to ogle at the breasts of women daily, while the rest were told to refrain from doing so.  At the close of the study, the researchers noted that the men who stared at the breasts of females on a regular basis exhibited lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates and lesser episodes of coronary artery disease.

Sexual desire linked to better blood circulation
The researchers declared that sexual desire gives rise to better blood circulation that signifies an overall improved health.  Weatherby explained the concept stating, "Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation. There's no question: Gazing at breasts makes men healthy.  "Our study indicates that engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack in half. We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life four to five years."

In addition, she also recommended that men over 40 should gaze at larger breasts daily for 10 minutes.  The German research is believed to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Do You FLD with Derek D?

Well, do ya?  You should.  One of the busiest actors from the BAZOOKAS cast has been Derek DeAngelis (Derek D). Derek plays the very funny juice bartender at Bazookas Gym and appears in the movie's signature opening scene playing racquetball against the beautiful Mandee Capone.  For the past few years Derek has hosted a super cool car show called "Fast Lane Daily".   In his 600+ episodes he's supplied the 411 on everything in the car world from Formula 1 to Ford Fiestas, from concept cars to Chevy Camaros, and covered auto shows from New York City to Detroit Rock City.  All the info comes with a generous helping  of humor and if you're lucky you'll catch an episode with very funny Bob Shubin Jr.

"Father Sexy" Preaches the Gospel of Dell

Not to be outdone, Dell pitchman Steve Klaszky was all over QVC a few days ago putting a trance on viewers to buy laptops.  He's practically a regular over there and rumor is that they even let him spend his off-camera time in the Joan Rivers suite.

Well, sort of.  Angela was featured on the "Bridezillas" commercial that aired during the final Lost episode.  She was seen showing off her dance moves as she made her way down the aisle -- and what moves they were!  Nice job, Angela!
